After 2 days of gales with me staring forlornly out of the office window at the conditions with no chance of getting away, my boss suggested going for a sail today. He'd not been on a board for years but had been at the planing stage and waterstarting so I thought why not? Only had my wave and freestyle kit with me but I thought that Portland Harbour would be a gentle introduction - too gentle as it transpired.

Took 40 minutes longer than normal to get there after a 4 mile queue to get into Weymouth but at least the sun came out. The wind wasn't as strong as the F4 forecast but I rigged up anyway. Took the board out to test the conditions but it wasn't planing conditions. Handed over to my boss and he got up and going on the second attempt which was pretty impressive considering he admitted later on that this was the first board he'd sailed without a daggerboard!!

We took it in turns with me playing around with some light wind freestyle. Scored a few upwind 360's so it wasn't too bad a performance and the sun was out - better than an afternoon in the office.
